"Mean Girls"
Lizzy Caplan
I love Lizzy Caplan because she's like the anti-Zooey Deschanel. Or she's like Zooey when Zooey started out with those sarcastic teen roles in "The Good Girl" and "Almost Famous." But even Zooey never reached the brilliance that Lizzy did as Janis Ian in "Mean Girls," playing (yet another) outsider in high school that everyone thinks is gay. But Janis Ian didn't give a crap: She was happy with her two best friends and her art, only losing her cool when she sees her friend Cady start to become one of the plastics. Lizzy's taken other roles since then that have mirrored her beaten-but-not-down ethos (as a comedian in "Party Down" and as Julie Klausner's stand-in in the upcoming HBO show based on Klausner's book "I Don't Care About Your Band"), hopefully beginning a trend of sarcastic hipsters who manage to stay that way before taking their Prozac and turning into Manic Pixie Dream Girls.

Choice quote:
Guy in class: Nice wig, Janis. What's it made of?
Janis: Your mom's chest hair!
