Latvian mezzo Elina Garanca pregnant: report

Opera singer Elina Garanca, shown performing at the traditional Opera Ball in March 2011, married British conductor Karel Mark Chichon, is pregnant and is due to give birth in late October, her agent Wolfgang Ubl announced on May 6.

AFP - Latvian star mezzo Elina Garanca is expecting a baby at the end of October, the Austrian daily Oesterreich reported on Friday.

In a pre-release of an article to appear in its Saturday edition, the newspaper said that Garanca and her British-born husband, conductor Karel Mark Chichon, had informed their friends of the good news in a letter.

According to the Austrian PR company and concert agent, Markant, which organises Garanca's annual "Classics Under the Stars" concert in Austria's Goettweig Abbey, the opera singer will still perform at this year's concert on July 6.

Garanca, 34, wowed audiences and critics alike in Donizetti's "Anna Bolena" in Vienna last month, when Vienna State Opera chief Dominique Meyer described her as having the world's "most beautiful mezzo voice".

She is scheduled to star in "Anna Bolena" again in New York's Metropolitan Opera in September and October, but her pregnancy could mean she will have to pull out.
